Resto Complete - Went Shopping..

Gidday,

Yes, I headed off early on this Saturday morning due to the fact that we were in for a hot day of 34c degrees, great to see the the warmer weather kicking in but all at once is a little hard to handle, so I got away around 7am while the air was still crisp as I wanted to get back to the local Kmart store at opening time right on 8am to pick a few things up and then get home again.

Job done, the old Chevy ran very well and it pulled up through the twisty "Haunted Hills" road very well, which leads down into the back of Newborough.

Resto Complete - 135kms Driven Today

Gidday,

Just a quick drive on this overcast Saturday, well at 45 mph the scenery is moving past rather slowly but again the Chevy went well over the 135 kms that I covered, straight down the Princes Hwy to Pakenham and back via Warragul to see my uncle and aunt and also catch up with a mate.
No stumbles or fuel issues were experienced which now seem to have become a thing of the past so the confidence level in Monty's reliability is as good as it will ever be as it is holding speed very well no long hills and the motor just seems to be settling into a nice rhythm the more I drive it....

Fuel Consumption:

While cruising along at 47mph (75kms) over a distance of 71.5 miles (115km) on relatively flat highway roads with the odd long incline here and there I used 19 litres of fuel.

Which calculated out to

16.5 Litres per 100 km
14.24 miles per gallon (U.S)
17.10 miles per gallon (imperial)

I Agree.........

Gidday,

I was shown this the other day by my wife who stumbled across it on the Internet, she gave it to me to read and it instantly hit put a smile on my face.

This was very much my dads view on life and I totally agree with him.

Resto Complete - 195kms Driven Over The Weekend

Gidday,

Is lov'in this springtime weather and today being a Saturday was no exception.... blue skies, no wind and sun everywhere!

In between mowing the lawns, pruning some trees, running the kids around and cleaning up the yard I was able to get a couple of  good runs in the Chevy today and that little 35hp engine is running very nicely indeed, no miss fires now and today I covered 69 miles or approx 115kms

Again 47 mph (72 kph) is a very comfortable speed to travel at with the odd run over the 50ish mark but only on rare occasions but it is eager to do that and does not feel sluggish at all, I also have been using a satnav GSP to check the speed accurately and the original speedo although it bounces about a little is pretty much bang on the money.

My son Codi had to be in Warragul by mid afternoon as he had been ask to play his guitar at a function/party later tonight out at Noojee, so we put his amp, gear and 2 x guitar cases in back and we both headed off down the Princes Hwy which a bit of fun....

Anyway all went well, no stumbles or running repairs and today distance of 115 km is the furthest yet that I have travelled in one day in the ole banger..
I have my eyes on a return trip to Melbourne by Christmas which will be a total of 245kms... Easy!!

SUNDAY:

It was blue skies and warm sunshine all the way as I point the Chevy down the street and turned east this time straight up the Princes Hwy with my destination being Traralgon which would give me a quick 50 mile round trip, I had nothing to pick up or no one to see, just a spare couple of hours before my fatherly chores  kicked in around midday with running the kids around to their social outings...

Today I made sure I sat bang on 47mph all the way and did not push it to hard which it did with no problems at all but to my surprise as I rolled into Traralgon some 40 minutes later the engine gave a cough and a splatter as I drove into the Shell service station, I timed that to perfection but my fuel calculations need a little more work as I thought I had a good few more miles left in the tank and next time a jerry can of fuel will also make the journey as well..

I fuelled up the 40 litre tank and also add the 1 litre of diesel which I carry on board, this being good for the valves and top end, I paid my money and pointed it back home for the return 40 minute trip.

A total of 195kms driven over the weekend, I'm happy with that.

Resto Complete - Fine Tuning Our 1928 Chevrolet Engine

Gidday,

With the Chevy now a fully registered road vehicle once again I have been out and about on the roads a little more than usual which has been great as I have been getting to know what this little 4 cylinder engine, all 35 horse power of it can and cannot do on different slopes.
I had noticed the last few times when I would drive up the steep Thorpdale Road that there was a small miss fire developing like it was starving for fuel which was starting to worry me as I did not really want to travel to far from home. Along the flats of the Princes Hwy is was fine as long as I did not push it to hard past 47 mph,  turn around and point it into a strong head wind and it was struggling a little.
So with a little problem solving and test runs by eliminating one thing after the other from Rays advice over the phone we quickly nailed it down to the timing being out a little and the advance and retard switch not quite working a well as it should.
Well you should feel and hear it go now, the difference is fantastic out on the road as it will sit on 50 mph very easily now and 55 mph being no problem although not good to the motor but I can cruise at 47 mph and it seems to like and do that speed well.

Ray came up on Tuesday (public holiday) and we plumbed up the radiator overflow tank (ex mini cooper tank) which we got running and working well, so no more dripping water when I pull up and stop, which the general public always let me know that I have " hey mate, ya sprung a leak"..

I had the radiator out prior to Rays arrival -

So with a good mornings work done in the resto shed once again, we both headed down the Princes Hwy towards Yarragon for some lunch,  a coffee and another test drive... Now extremely pleased.
