Gidday,
Over the new years holidays the family jumped in the modern car and took a few days R&R over in the small touristy town of Daylesford which is only about 250kms away.
There are plenty of old-wares and collectable shops that you can get lost in a for a while plus some great cafes dotted up and down the streets so a lovely coffee is never to far away if needed.
I found lots of quirky old items for around our house and some great ideas for future projects in the garden but one thing in particular that stood out for the old Chevy was this small metal trunk for the rear luggage rack, its perfect for a few tools and spares instead of having to store them on the rear floor area.
I came home a gave it a squirt and wipe over with some WD40, yes its always WD40! and then I glued one large piece of 5mm thick black rubber to the underside of it to stop it rattling and moving about on the old uneven metal luggage rack supports and also I still have to raise the number plate a little more to keep the police happy and with the patina and dents included in the price, it certainly suits Monty down to the ground.. Cheers
In 1969 dad rescued this 1928 Chevrolet (10,485 original miles) off a Gippsland farm, he then stored it for a further 41 yrs in his workshop. A few months before dad was suddenly diagnosed with "AML Leukemia" in May of 2010 we spoke about getting it out of the shed, dads said "We'll get it running but we're not painting it all fancy". Sadly this never happened as dad passed away after a 6 week battle on 14th June 2010, I owe dad this restoration so here is my story of "Monty" our 1928 Chevrolet.

Monthly Sunday "Breaky" Car Club Meet - Gippsland
Gidday,
What a great turnout it was again on a lovely Sunday morning, I would think that close to 80 or so classic cars of all makes, models and ages gathered around the public car park in the Warragul town centre from 8am onwards for a few hours of banter and bullshit with the owners and like their cars, the ages of the owners varies a lot which is great to see... A great bunch of blokes!!
Today I laid my eyes on a couple of 1920 Sunbeams, yes big old cars indeed with one soon to get the restoration treatment again after its last 1960's makeover which no doubt will come up a lovely after talking to the new owner.
Its originally from New Zealand and comes complete with an aeroplane engine hanging out both sides of it and it sounded just amazing as it "taxied" into the car park and came to a stop and after a quick chat with the owner, I was told that when cruising at legal highway speed which is 100kph the massive engine is just ticking over at 1100rpms... How Nice!!

And the other Sunbeam, well not much to say really except "bloody hell"....

90th Birthday For Bill
Gidday,
A few months ago I received a phone call from a bloke who wanted to know if I was available on the 29th December and also if I was willing to drive the Chevy down to Melbourne, well actually an eastern suburb of Melbourne because it was his fathers surprise 90th birthday and his father Bill, had a soft spot for the 1928 Chevrolet as this was the first car that he learnt to drive in at the age of 14 and would I be able to pick him and his father up at an aged care home and take him for a drive around the suburb... "Sure, no problems at all" was my reply.
Well today after the 90 minute drive straight down the Princes Hwy into an annoying side wind at a leisurely 73kph I arrived at the "Hansworth" nursing home around 11am where my mate Ray was waiting to take a few pix and shortly afterwards Murray, Bills sons showed up, greetings were exchanged and then Murray went inside to get his father and bring him out to the street
While we waited for Bill to come outside we chatted to Bill's 88 year old wife who had made her way out closure to the street to take a look at Monty... "It's a beauty, I do love cars, oh I love cars, you know I was a devil in a car... oh yes it's a real beauty", Bills wife was a sweetie!
The automatic doors to the nursing homes slid open and out shuffled Bill, a tall, well dressed gentleman with his two sons one on each side of him as Bill and his walking frame made their way and came out into the bright daylight and down the driveway towards us.. "Look at that car, a 1928 Chevrolet," were his softly spoken words straight away with a smile on his face, Murray got the introductions under way and we wished Bill a happy birthday, photos were then taken as Bill quickly headed for the front seat after his family explained that we were taking him on a joy ride..
With the four of us all seated and Bill with a smile across his face we soon found ourselves out amongst the Sunday morning traffic of down town suburbia and motoring along Police Road with Murray and his brother in the back seat calling out the shots on when and where to turn because I didn't have a clue on how to get back to the restaurant where the rest of Bill's family were gathering to greet him.
While we drove Bill chatted about their dairy business that they owned, how he learnt to drive at the young age of 14 years in a 1928 Chevrolet tourer, how he got his license young and how they used to delivery milk in many 2 gallon metal tins which they tired along the side running boards of the Chevrolet and also in the back where the rear seat should of been installed, the three fellas laughed and chatted as I drove and quietly encouraged Monty up a few steep longish streets.
We soon found our way back to the restaurant where family members were waiting with cameras to take Bills picture and then he was helped down out of old Monty.
After a quick chat I again wished Bill a very happy birthday and we parted with a handshake and a smile.
Murray, many thanks for the initial phone call and inquiry about the use of Monty, never a problem and it was a pleasure to be able to help out your family, but more importantly to see that smile on your dads face as he walked down the driveway.
HAPPY 90TH BILL
Cheers Grant

I received a email today for Murray, Bill's son that read -
Hello
Grant
On behalf of my family, I would
like to thank you again for last Sunday. It was an excellent day and my dad was
taken totally by surprise. I have attached some images of dad washing the Chevrolet as a 16 year old (around 1940). In one of the photos he is pictured with his
father but unfortunately this one is a bit blurry. I see you have updated your
blog (bought a tear to my eye) and these images will finish it off just
nicely.
Regards
Murray

Bunyip Bound On A Sunny Sunday
Gidday,
Just a couple of pix of a few weeks back from a quick blast down the Princes Hwy with the destination being a small service centre at Bunyip to catch up with Ray Dean and his immaculately presented 1928 "Red Chev" which btw is the complete polar opposite in appearance to patina riddled "Ole Monty"... Cheers

http://my28chev.blogspot.com.au/2013/11/installing-6-to-12-volt-converter-into.html
And today on this lovely Boxing Day holiday the resto shed flung open its doors once more as Ray and I, well basically it was more Ray installing his already made up 6 volt to 12 volt converter while I passed the tools so that I to can now charge my phone and run my little sat nav all day long in the Chevy.
Also while we were at it a little issue with the front left brake was sorted and now everything is running smoothly again.

A Drive At Dusk - Warm Evening
Gidday
Was the first day of summer for 2013 and the day was a typical hot Aussie one with the kids swimming in the pool all afternoon, Lisa keeping busy around the house and myself looking for shade while tinkering around in the shed and yard after lawn duties were completed, so later in the day just on dusk and with heat still in the air I drove the Chevy for about 30 miles down to Warragul and back to drop my son off at his mates place.

Just Out n About...
Gidday
It had been a couple of weeks since the old chev had seen any daylight and with our hot Aussie summer just one sleep away it was a good time to point the radiator up over the steep ploughed Thorpdale hills of Gippsland and nudge myself little closer to the perfect blue sky for a couple of hours and as always I stumbled across some old corrugated farm building which had seen better days but now as a great backdrop to Monty in a photo, it certainly looks great..

A New Family Member
Gidday,
About a month ago on the 4th October at 2.25am our beautiful little 3 and a half year old dog "Bella" suddenly passed away over night from some type of liver failure, it was very quick and as a family we were shattered, as all pet owners would understand and would of been themselves, you just get so attached to your pets and she will be sadly missed. R.I.P Bella xxoo
So how long do we wait? do we get another dog? these two questions we have tossed around as a family for the last month endlessly, we love our pets and get heaps of love and affection in return from them always, they don't ask for much but give back so very much, they should and always do slot right in to become a special member of our family, that's just how it works around here.
So along stumbles tiny "Posy" a ball of fluff at just 6 weeks of age last Friday the 4th November or "Po" for short as she has quickly been nicknamed, she is a toy "moodle" which is a Maltese x miniature poodle and yes she has fitted in very well and no doubt you will see her on this blog over the coming years in the odd photo - Cheers
